Tiemen Hiemstra, whose debut novel W. focuses on the fragile boundaries of memory,
identity, and growing up, examines the relationship between memory and the
self. Do our experiences make us who we are, or is it the memories we hold of
them that shape us? Do we lose a part of ourselves when we lose a memory? We
will discuss how memory shapes our identity across a life journey from
childhood to youth and adulthood, as well as what we leave behind over time and
what we carry with us.
