DEFNE SUMAN was born in Istanbul as the child of two young people who worked as tourist guides in the 1970s and grew up in her grandfather's house on Büyükada. She completed her undergraduate and graduate studies at Boğaziçi University, Department of Sociology. She worked as a volunteer teacher in the Far East. Here she began to learn and write about eastern spirituality. She continued her studies in the US state of Oregon. She now lives in Athens with her husband and cats. Her novels are translated into world languages and read with love. She writes stories, novels and essays on memory, space and lost identities, and continues to tell his readers about the gray areas between literature, fantasy, fiction and reality by taking them around the neighborhoods where her novels take place.
