After graduating from Ankara University, Faculty of Language, History and Geography, Department of Korean Language and Literature in June 1994, he started to work as a research assistant in the department he graduated in November. In 1995, he went to Korea after receiving a postgraduate scholarship from the Korean Government. Between 1996-1999, he completed his master's degree in Korean Language Teaching at the National Seoul University Faculty of Education. He started his doctorate program in the same department in 1999 without a break. He is the first Turkish citizen to receive a doctorate in the Republic of Korea. On October 9, 2012, he received the Order of the President of Korea, awarded by the Korean Government to those who contributed to the development and promotion of the Korean Language. In 2017, he won the best translation award given by the Korean Literature Translation Institute. He is still the head of the Department of Oriental Languages and Literatures at the Faculty of Letters at Korea Erciyes University. In addition to being a Korean language instructor, she also does literature translations.
